Abstract

The use of organic acids as functional food additives in aquaculture is expected to increase significantly in the future. The continuous expansion of global aquaculture production is creating a huge market potential. Aquaculture condensation along with global warming may also arise the danger of an increase in the frequency of disease outbreaks. Many countries have bans or restrictions on the use of antibiotic applications. The suitability of the use of organic acids as a possible alternative to antibiotics in the aquaculture is demonstrated by the studies carried out. Organic acids, by their antimicrobial properties, inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract of animals. Therefore, they show the properties of improving the health of animals. The use of organic acids as functional feed additives as part of a sustainable health management program in aquaculture is proved by studies.
